I ordered an abaya and sent my measurements and payment through their online system. They never received my size form, so I resent it via emails, online chats, online forms and voice mails. After three months of waiting, I canceled my order. Now despite written promises for a refund, I haven't yet received one. Even though many phone numbers are listed on the website, no one answers the phone. Shame on you, Renuka Silks, for your poor customer service!

I ordered an item, but did not receive a confirmation email, so I sent them several emails in the next few days to check if they'd actually received the order. If they'd responded that they hadn't received it, I would have simply placed the order again, but I didn't want to risk ordering it twice. Nothing to be confused about. Yes, they do sell a selection of pop-up cards of the California Missions. However, there are also many items not on the website currently - More Persian and Islamic buildings, Indian buildings, Islamic calligraphy cards, snowflakes, Buildings of Venice, etc. Custom work can be ordered as well. This company does business with University of Chicago, Harvard, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many other private companies as well. Currently published is a commemorative book on the Arg-e Bam that was destroyed by earthquake in 2003. Coming in 2006, 2 volumes on the California Missions, Ancient Persia, and 2 volumes on historical and Islamic buildings in Isfahan, Iran. In the planning stages are books on historical structures from India, and Venice.

I have ordered again several weeks back and she still has not billed me for the items, let alone sent them. I even signed her guestbook to take advatange of her current special offer but by the time she bills me it may have expired! Another friend has recently had problems where they sent payment and it took six months for the sister to realise she had got it and send the items. Despite thinking I would not order again; I have done twice as they sell items you can't get elsewhere; with fairly good results so I thought the service had improved. The only problem I have is if she cannot get an item she makes substitutions and often the substitutions are poor; ie niqabs and scarves with embroidery when you wanted plain; too small kids al-ameerahs with lace when you ordered the plain adults ones; or she just never sends that item at all. My best friend ordered a good six months ago and asked for six pairs of the black cotton gloves; she kept saying she could not get hold of that many but she would eventually; however they have never been sent nor has my friend been refunded that money. I have been told by a sister very famililar with the company that what they do is put a photo of a generic item on the site; and actually go to buy the majority of the items from the bazaar when an order is placed; it explains the very low prices on some items but also the poor substitutions and variation in quality at times. I am still waiting for the bill for this order; if they didn't sell the Arabic kids books so cheap (even in Saudi they are more expensive than she sells them for) and rare items for the household and good niqabs I'd give this site a wide berth.

I wish that I could say that my experience with them has been excellent. My complaints - customer service is sorely lacking. Every time I have needed to contact them I have had to wait a long time to receive any response and when it has come it has been very curt, bordering on rude. Example, they carry excellent cotton gauze hijabs - but were out of the color and style I wanted. I wrote to inquire as to when they would relist them and at the same time let them know that I thought the hijabs were wonderful. I didn't hear from them for several days and when I did the reply just said that they didn't have them now - no further information, no pleasant communication. There are other similar incidents with them I could cite. It is important to be courteous to customers. Also, while I have found the quality of the hijabs to be good I have found the garment quality to be low. Finishing on the garments is very poor (ex: stitching is very large - not what you expect to see on high-quality garments, hemming is poor, buttons and closures are low quality) - and they carry few garments in natural fibers - most are polyester or nylon.

The first time I ordered from alsundus I was pleased. The items arrived in the timely fashion, and the colors were as pictured. However the 2nd time I ordered it was almost a month when I realized that the order had not come. I emailed, they told me they would ship it. Wow, where do I start??? I ordered $300 worth of abayas that I thought looked absolutely beautiful on their site. Well two months later and I have nothing. I am currently disputing the charge with my bank. It was about 3 weeks before they shipped them out, and their website says 5 business days. When I inquire about my order they give excuse after excuse about how I have to wait to clear customs which I know does not take two months. They keep telling me it has shipped. I ordered from them over a year ago (I should have learned my lesson then), and they never even shipped the item, but were quick to take the money. I got a refund from them on that purchase. I think they have nice looking product, but they are disorganized. I now have my abayas custom made by a wonderful tailor in Saudi. It takes about two weeks with stitching and shipping, but they are stunning, and are those high quality ones you find in Saudi abaya boutiques. My sister managed to get one of their abayas on ebay, the snaps come open during salah, the "embroidery" fell off after one hand wash. Please use caution with this company. Their items look nice and the fabric feels good, but these are not the best quality. From what I hear they are manufactured in Bangladesh not in Saudi at all. A message to desertstore.com, get your act together. More people might shop with you if you can deliver in less than two months.
