Description

MISS CARNEGIE was part of the renowned, world-famous Hattie Carnegie haute couture designer. This suburb vintage hat is a masterpiece of panache and elegance. It is made of a silvery-black straw, accented by rows of emerald green velvet ribbons, which meet at the crown to create a sassy crown detail. This is a classically styled hat, a silhouette used frequently by Carnegie. The straw that was used to create this hat is of exceptional quality, seen in vintage hats like these. By viewing the photos you can see how this fantastic hat sits with sophisticated appeal on your head. The chic designer creation would make a wonderful addition to your vintage hat collection. It is a piece of millenary history and an amazing piece of wearable art. It is absolutely a collector’s item, and will be a treasure for any vintage enthusiast. It is has a sewn-in label, signed MISS CARNEGIE by Hattie Carnegie, on the underside brim of the hat. In addition, the underside of the hat has a grosgrain ribbon head band. Measurement: It measures 21 ½ inches in circumference. It measures approximately 6 1/2 inches in height. I believe this hat is from the 1950s. CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. The only thing to note is that the headband inside where it would sit by the forehead is a lighter color than the rest of the grosgrain ribbon, most likely from a previous owner. It is certainly not visible when worn, and does not detract from its beauty, in my opinion. I have included a photo in this listing, so please judge for yourself. Quality is excellent. The velvet ribbons retain their deeply rich and vibrant color and texture. This is a vintage item, and has been gently used. I have done my best to describe it, but it is possible that a small defect could have escaped my notice. Please look at the photos, as they will give you a good idea of the overall condition of this vintage treasure. More photos of this item are available and can be shared upon request. Information about Hattie Carnegie: When young Henrietta Kanengeiser emigrated to the United States with her family from Europe she had decided to change her name. To fulfill her ambition to succeed, she changed her name to Carnegie in 1909, emulating the rich and famous industrialist, Andrew Carnegie. She began her career as a messenger girl for Macy’s, then moved on to trimming hats in the millinery department. Miss Carnegie began working with hats in New York City as a young teenager in the early part of the century. By 1909 she opened her first tiny hat shop with a friend, and in 1919 bought out her friend's share of the business. She incorporated her business and thus the famous label "Hattie Carnegie INC." Hattie Carnegie accomplished her dream, ultimately becoming a famous haute couture fashion icon and business woman.
