Vintage Homer Laughlin Serving Bowl, Virginia Rose, Pink Floral, Platinum Trim

This is a lovely large serving bowl crafted by the HOMER LAUGHLIN COMPANY, in the Virginia Rose pattern. The name is in honor of W. E. Wells’ granddaughter, Virginia Rose Wells. This pattern was produced from 1929 into the 1970s. The pattern is recognizable by its bouquets of pink, white and lavender flowers on a background of creamy winter white, platinum silver trim, and scalloped edges. They are must-haves for the discerning collector. It is stamped on the underside, HOMER LAUGHLIN, Made in USA, C38N8. The circa dates can be determined by the back stamps, and if I understand the coding correctly, this serving bowl was manufactured in March (C;) 1938 (38); in the Newell, West Virginia plant (N). Although, it may be a second, or somehow issued later, because it is also stamped JJ-59. MEASUREMENTS (approximately): • Diameter: 8 ¾ inches • Height: 2 ¾ inches CONDITION: Fair vintage condition. The colors are vibrant and the platinum trim remains intact, with some signs of wear. There is one chip on the underside of the lip. The other issues to note include a yellowing or discoloration on the white part of the bowl, that shows on both the inside and outside, and a small discoloration spot on the inside towards the bottom. These issues do not detract from its beauty or usability, but you decide for yourself after viewing the photos. These issues are reflected in the cost of the bowl. This is a vintage item, which is now at least over 60 years old, and has been gently used. I have done my best to describe it, but it is possible that a small defect could have escaped my notice.
